Dr. Bhan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan. She completed her medical education at Topiwalla National Medical College (TNMC) in Mumbai, India and went on to do her Internal Medicine residency from University of Hawaii in 2004. She then completed her Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2007. After completing her fellowship she joined the faculty at the University of Michigan to continue her research training and was funded by the NIH/NHLBI T32 Multidisciplinary Training Program in Lung Diseases.
Dr. Bhan’s research focuses on exploring the innate immune mechanisms involved in host response to pathogen challenges as well as understanding the pathogenesis of lung injury complicating pneumonia. Her Investigation in basic science is principally directed at understanding the role of specific cells, cytokines, and microRNA in the generation of protective innate immune responses of the lung. Specialized areas of clinical interest include sepsis, acute lung injury, community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonia. Her research is currently funded by KO8 award from the NHLBI.
