Stephen Riutta graduated magna cum laude with bachelor's degrees in mechanical and biomedical engineering from Michigan Technological University. He was involved in NSF-sponsored research programs at Clemson University and Princeton University. He served as a mathematics and science teacher in rural Ghana through the Peace Corps for two years. After working in the engineering industry in southern California, he obtained his master's degree studies in mechanical engineering at University of Texas at Austin where he analyzed the dynamics of athletes. He is currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Michigan where he plans to combine a career in anesthesiology with the development of medical devices in the operating room.
