MCIRCC Welcomes Our External Advisory Board

MCIRCC has a vibrant history, rich in innovation, integration, and entrepreneurship. We are thankful for our history, yet it is the future that will keep the MCIRCC power grid surging!

With the future in mind, MCIRCC has assembled an External Advisory Board (EAB) to help guide us through our next phase of growth. The EAB consists of seven advisors with expertise in critical care, finance, technology, commercialization, manufacturing, and combat casualty care. Their guidance, insight, and expertise will help us determine how best to release our new innovations into the marketplace, while creating long-term financial stability for the Center.

At this time, MCIRCC proudly introduces our EAB members:

Since its inception in 2014, MCIRCC has significantly transformed critical care research at the University of Michigan with highlights including:

  • The anticipation of serving a diverse group of member needs – resulting in the genesis of the seven current MCIRCC Core Units.

  • An intense focus on severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) sparked by collaborations with the Joyce and Don Massey Family Foundation and the Department of Defense (DoD).

  • Development of a big data platform for critical care research, capturing data from University Hospital and C.S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital.

  • Filing of 56 invention disclosures and 32 patent applications.

  • The awarding of 22 patents.

  • Successfully launching four spin-off companies.

  • Guiding MCIRCC members in the awarding of nearly $17 million in grant funding

  • Releasing a predictive analytic to reduce readmission rates in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation unit.

The MCIRCC EAB members attended the 2019 Joyce Massey TBI Summit on October 18th and the next day they were treated to an MCIRCC open house featuring several of our latest innovations. Their visit concluded with an intense discussion on how the EAB can make connections to help us in our mission of improving the treatment of critical care patients.

Are you or do you know someone that is interested in teaming up with MCIRCC as a member of the EAB? Check out the details or contact Phil Jacokes, MCIRCC Managing Director.
